Sito personale e professionale di Stefano Grasso.
Hi! I am Stefano Grasso, since July 2022 I work as a Multiplexed Synthetic Biology Scientist in the newly established Biofoundry of (Lesaffre) in Lille (France).
Until May 2022, I was Post-doc at the Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas (CBGP) within the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). From 2015 to 2020 I was a Marie Curie fellow within the ITN project ProteinFactory, and a PhD student at UMCG (Groninen University, NL) and DSM Food Specialties B.V. (Delft, NL).
I obtained my MSc in Plant and Animal Biotechnology in 2015 at University of Udine and my BSc in Biotechnology in 2013 at the same University. In parallel to University, I was also a student of Scuola Superiore dell’Università degli Studi di Udine an institute of excellence for highly talented students. Students at the Scuola Superiore had to obtain an outstanding GPA (at least an average of 90%), follow extra courses and produce two small theses per year. Additionally the School was providing a full board and lodging scholarship.
During University, I have also been an elected member of the Faculty council and later I had a full mandate as elected student member of the Academic Senate (University Council). I have also represented the Scuola Superiore within the network of Italian Excellence Institutes contributing to the formation of the actual Association comprising all students of such institutes.
In my free time I like to travel and to cook. When cooking I apply the same principles I use in the lab, thus I claim I am a scientific cooker (my best dishes ranges from Carbonara, to Pizza, to molecular cockatails).
I have very broad research interestes all pointing into the direction of fusing (bio)informatics and (bio)technology, in what is at the moment called Synthetic biology. Main interests are in (but not limited to): protein secretion, strain development and optimization, protein analyses and annotation, genomic annotation, comparative proteomic and genomic analyses, development of prediction tools, synthetic biology and genetic engineering.
I also have a very broad thecnical and scientifc knowledge and experience. While I am mostly expert in moelecular biology and molecular genetics, I have extensive experience also in proteomics and bioinformatics, in species spanning from bacteria to plants. Additioanlly, because I always had a keen interest in computer and machineries, I can easily work on the hardware side of a problem, other than the software and conceputal/sceintific sides. I am in fact interested also in automation and open hardware.
Overall I am complete scientist, able to lead and manage projects from their drafting, design, customization, implementation, execution, analysis, and dissemination of the results.
I offer tailoerd solution for any necessity in the broader field of biotechnology and bioinformatics (both wet- and dry-lab). Due to my hybrid experience I can assist you in the wet-lab part, always taking into account all the other aspects. Similarly, I can provide advice and support for in silico projects by always having in mind the experimental counterpart.

Lista dei software da me sviluppati:
GP4 (Gram-Positive Protein Prediction Pipeline) is protein subcellular localization meta-prediction tool tailored for Gram+ Bacteria and implementing an expert system predictor. It is free to use and can be used as a webserver or downloaded from its website (Currently under manteinance - not avaialble as webserver, plase refer to github and the publication).
